THE MANDARA MOUNTAINS – OUDJILLA CHIEFDOM

THE MANDARA MOUNTAINSOUDJILLA CHIEFDOM

We came out of a nice 2 days tour to the Waza National Park with a group of students from university of Douala to go to the Mandara Mountains in Mayo sava. It takes about 120 km of road to finally arrive at the foot of these fabulous mountains. It is important to note that our geography lessons explains the Mandara mountains: to be a part of the chains mountains forming part of the Cameroonian ridge (which begins in the island of Bioko in Equatorial Guinea, crosses Mount Cameroon, arrives in the Mandara mountains and Ends in northern Chad). Our main focus was the Oudjila Chiefdom which perches on top of a mountain. It was about 15 to 20 minutes by car from the city center of Mora that we arrived at the foot of the mountain.

The ascension was by foot since we wanted to discover more and it was advisable for those who were physically fit and for others who couldn’t make it at all, the car was available to take right up to the palace. It is about 8 km trekking to reach the Chiefdom of this village of Kirdis. The scenery of the mountains was breathtaking. As far as the eye could see, crops cultivation on the terraced was awesome.

The chiefdom of Oudjila arouses the curiosity of tourists because it is headed by a Chief with 52 women and more than 100 children: it is truly impressive. But another surprise was the architecture of the women's huts of the chef and their layout. The chef received us and the tour guide offered his best: it was great. Join Orton Travel Tour in her next visit and discover so many pleasant surprises.
